Painting table Saturday #21

Not a huge amount of noticeable progress this week. Most of what I did you cant see in the picture or had nothing to do with painting. A lot of this week was spent reorganizing all my model stuff after moving around most of the furniture in the house. Which caused me to loss or have to change a lot of my storage options/locations.  My youngest has been climbing everything and anything.

Models wise I did orange on most of the stealth suits and started painting the brown bits on them. So not much progress but a start.

I also received an early bday present in the form of deadzone. Convinced my wife to buy it during mantics sale last month since that was the cheapest she was going to get it. Mainly due to shipping costs. Hence it was a bday request. I will be doing a review of the overall contents in the future. Its a mixture of happiness and disappointment.

Painting table Saturday #20: Success

Well I managed to complete my goal along with a few other things this week.
So with out further ado here are the 4 complete broadsides, 4 crisis suits and 2 heavy gun drones all finished off. This week also saw me getting set up for stealth suit and devil fish painting along with more work on the earth shaker. Then just to spice things up a massive move of furniture all over the place and the beginning of recovery from it. Along with trying to better organize all my hobby stuff again.

The next project will be the 2 devilfish, shadowsun, 3 marksmen ( I think that's what they are called now) and the 12 stealth suits.

I also plan on breaking out and painting at least 1 more company from the Epic space marine chapter before the end of the month. Also want to get that marines painted and off my desk.

Review of Biostrip20 : first test and thoughts

So I did use my Biostrip20 not too long ago on some epic rhinos to test it out. I used two models and let them sit for two different times. The one on the left sat for 35 minutes before being scrubbed off and the one on the right sat for 60 minutes. The stuff worked great and didn’t really require any special precautions. It had no distinctive smell and even my son who is sensitive to such things had no problems after being in the same room as them and touching them.

Shipping was a little expensive for me but as long as the stuff stays wet it is supposed to stay good. The small tub (500ml) set me back £6.67 originally and shipping was £10.15. The only problem is even if you want to order multiple ones in that order they cost £10.15 each to have shipped. NOTE: this is the case for shipping to South Korea. Please contact them for your own quote on shipping cost. Overall after my first trial I liked it. But I want to test it on a more extensive basis before I use it as my go to for paint stripping. Though given the options I have this is one of the best and is much safer than anything else I have found in South Korea.

Painting table Saturday #19

So what did I get done this week. Not a lot by a straight look at the desk but enough to make me happy and to make it so with a few hours of hard work I can easily finish off the rest.
First there are the two heavy gun drones, they just need a bit of touch up work and then I will call them finished.

Then I have my two missile based broadsides. They are in the same situation, just a bit more touch up and they will be done as well.

As for the two railgun based broadsides they need more work before touch up but are getting there, same with my 4 crisis suits. All in all I plan on having all these guys finished off hopefully next weekend, at max the end of the month.
I have also started working on tweaking my earth shaker carriage design it is almost complete. It mainly needs some extra bits for detail and to finish off the back part that stops it from going backwards when it fires.
The plan for after the crisis suits it to do the 6th company of my epic SM chapter and maybe a few more detachments while also working on the 1st earth shaker and others in the future. I do need to order some bits to make it work right in the long run but for now it’s ok. I have also decided to pick up some legit  thudguns and such in the future. I thought about scratch building them but don’t think I can pull it off half as well. They also aren’t as crazy priced as the earth shakers.

If you hadn’t guessed I am planning on a DKOK artillery/engineer party as an ally for SM and tau. Though, I will not be using most of the actual models. For some reason I don’t like most of them. They look strange proportion wise for some reason. I will probably pick up a commissar and a few other cool looking models from the range but in general the basic guys will be made up of various warzone models. I am basing most of the force off of the starter bag of models from the old second edition box. The trenchers are going to be most of the crew for artillery and such and the bhaus will be my engineers, I just need to work out some options for the mole launcher really.

I have also decided to sell off my PHR, I am not going to use them so I would prefer if they go to a good home. The immortals are glued to their bases and I have done a little bit of cleaning up on the models but otherwise they are unassembled. I will only part with them as a set. So if you interested drop me a line. The other stuff is also still up for grabs just because I haven’t had a chance to post it. I will be doing that soon enough though. I also have a rather good size lot of extra epic stuff I will be getting rid of.

Doh

I have been silent since the last post mainly because I have been in a funk and busy. My funk stems from hurting myself not long after the last post. I was rushing through making a steak and cheese bomb when I sliced myself nice and deeply across the left hand just under the joints. Suffice to say I now have 5 stitches which will be out by the time this post gets up. Unfortunately it also meant the holding models or even building them was out the window since I can’t move the fingers much. This is even being typed one handed. Yeah, yeah stupid me. I have however been shopping, planning and getting work done for my new job in advance so that I will have a more free time to get painting done.
So let’s start with what I have been planning. I have sat down and drafted out a list of the next dozen or so things I want to build/paint etc. Starting, with those tau suits, which are still on my desk. That will then be followed by more epic and some 40k marines. I have also started planning future conversion projects and even bought some stuff for another force.  That is the basic plan for now.
Next up we have the spending I did recently. I bought a bunch of new on sprue models from “x” company for my new force that will be heavily converted. I still will need to pick up more bits for them, my earth shaker carriages  and for my marines. So there will be at least a bit more spending on that front. Them along with a couple of tank models I picked up on the cheap to supplement the scratch building set me back a grand total of $55.00.
That makes my spending:
June: $55.00
YTD: $255.08
Painting wise I didn’t do as well as I wanted due to me injuring my hand. I only got 34.5 points for the month.
Which gives me a YTD total of 164.5  points. I painted 100+ more models for a total of 494 models painted. I still need to sit down and figure out how many point are done up but I plan on doing that over the next few days. The new job and hours in general will make life much more fulfilling and productive I think. So keep your eyes open. There will be the review I promised next week along with more details on plans and stuff I am flogging off.
