Painting Table #22 2016

A good week. A lot of changes to the blog organization to streamline it some and a lot of pictures taken to start updating sections.

On the painting front. I finished off 4 more models. 1 was a straggler for the warband I had made. The other 3 are goblin hero's for things in the future. I also finished off the 4 planters. Then I also painted a test model for all the books for treasure tokens.

That is all for this week. Going to continue working on random models and taking pictures. Then I am going to work on space marines I think.

Painting Table # 21 2016

This update is a huge one after my absence. I managed to rebuild my computer this past week so I can actually post again without all the problems. I had been doing it on one phone no problem but then that one was lost. The next phone never really worked right and was finally smashed by my youngest when my wife tried to take it. My newest phone I haven't tried but it at least takes pictures. I also had a vacation mixed in which was all kid focused due to it being summer vacation. I should now be able to resume a more normal schedule.

First off, I painted and sealed up these four walls for use in many games.
Then, I did all 20 of the frostgrave cultists models and a wizard and apprentice.

I also painted this lizard type model that I think I will use as a wizard or apprentice beast master.

Following up on that I painted this building I found sitting around.

Finally, I made a bunch of books of different sizes and a few scrolls to use for treasure tokens.

I am looking forward to getting back on track since I have really missed this aspect of the hobby. My next project is a few goblin characters from Mantic to use in frostgrave/mordheim and a bunch more of the heroins in sensible shoes kickstarter minis.
Anyway more as I get it done.

Painting Table #20 2016

This past week saw me paint and flock the hills. Then do a huge varnish spree on all the terrain. I also made some planters and walls. Learned that 3mm plasticard is a huge pain to cut. Finally, I also started base coating the frostgrave stuff on the desk. More as I get it done.

Painting Table #19 2016

Hello everyone. My computer is well and truly dead this time so you will have to bear with me on this format for now.

This week I finished of chompy and worked on varnishing terrain. I also started working on my first tree and made 3 hills.
.

My epic stuff is available at 450usd minus the emperor Titan. Hoping to put it towards a new rig.
More as I get it done

Painting Table #18 2016

Not sure if you will be able to see this since I'm posting from a new phone since the old phone and computer died.

This week I finished off the 5 buildings, rock wall and fountain you saw last week. Then I flocked them all. I also managed some priming before the weather turned. Got about half the built models done. This week I have been painting a frost wraith, 4 dogs/wolves and the dreamer with Lord chompy. Everything but chompy are done. Attached are a few photos, sorry for the overall quality of this post.

Finally I spent 30$ getting the last of the needed stuff for my sisters warband.
More as I can.

Painting Table #54 2015

Today will be the final painting table for the year. I finished off the pond and last hill/island.

In other news me and the oldest played another cruiser clash type thing in DW. He ended up winning after scoring two rounds of shooting were he dealt 3 critical hits to each ship. I forgot how useless my ships are in range band one and how nasty his are.

That is two more finished pieces. Side not I also updated the tab for models painted this year, check it out if your curious. More in the new year.

Painting Table #53 2015

I know it has been a long time. Honestly I haven't posted mainly because I have been playing video games and looking for work. Instead of posting. So what have I done.
First let us talk about what I forgot to photograph. The nomad bases. I finished them. Pictures when I get around to it.
Now for the fun stuff. I have been making and painting islands/hills and a rock outcrop. Working on the bridge and my oldest son and I have been building a tank from leftovers and getting it ready to paint. The final thing that my oldest and I have been working on is a pond.

I still have 1 more island/hill to finish up that I have mostly done. The plan for the next week or so is to do that and the pond along with more details on the bridge. I will also be making more specific plans for next year. So that's 4 more pieces of terrain finished.

Late mid year review

So lets go back over the goals for the year.

Goals
1. Paint all the tau stuff I have.
2. Paint the 2 merc forces I have
3. Paint 400 points
4. Build/paint at least 2 pieces of terrain.
5. Paint more than I buy again. preferably on the 2 to 1 scale
6. $350 or less in spending

So where are we in the grand scheme of things.
1. All but 13 drones and 9 suits done. After they are finished it will be all good for now. I may in the future add new things but I have no plans to.

2. The first Merc force is assembled and will hopefully be painted soon. The other shouldn't be to far behind.

3. I am currently at 335 points. Well on my way to the 400 point goal for the year.

4. This one is completely done. I have painted way more than 2 pieces of terrain this year. Just with the planets I did, never mind all the deadzone stuff.

5. So far the paint more than I buy is well ahead of the goal with  156 to 41.

6. I am once again over budget by $45 and change. This will hopefully be different in the future.

Now for the 6MMRPC stuff.
1. Tau, a bunch of firewarriors/pathfinders, some kroot and about 9 suits are left at this point
2. BFG Tau, should have the first 3 finished by end of month.
3. The 2 other earth shakers
4.The 2 Mercs starter sets, something like 14 models
5.The Aqua ships I have running around, I think 10 or so models
6. The dystopian war ships I found the other day, frigates for both fleets maybe 5 or 6 each.

1. As noted above this one is well on the way to being finished.
2. Already finished.
3. Finished though not painted.
4. As with part 2 in first part.
5. Not even looked at yet.
6. Cleaned up waiting for paint.

That already earned me 1 joker, I am not sure for the earthshakers since I mainly finished them since I had them. They are still available to a good home by the way just for the cost of shipping. The Epic Space Marines and Titan group are also still available.

Earth Shaker tutorial part 4: the final part

Ok guys here is the final part of the tutorial series for the earth shaker. Basically it focuses on the assembly of the back part of the body.
Step 1: cut out plastic card that is small enough to fit into the back of the main carriage you will also need to side pieces. Mine are about 10.5cm long in total.
Step 2: build the boxes.
Step 3: If desired add struts on inside
Step 4: Attach the deck plates, I used old fantasy movement trays cut up.
Step 5: attach the back dozer piece.

From here it gets tricky, originally I attached the wire mesh and all the extra bits between the body and the back part. However, I found it difficult to paint those parts well because of it. I would suggest painting those parts first (sides and top middle of platform) and then apply your mesh.
At that point the only things left to do are accessorizing the model. Bits here and there and details. That part is up to you, I originally used some spare marine pieces that I had running around and push molded a rhino hatch from BT for the front.

Now that this has wraped up  I am offering all 3 earth shakers to a good home, they will come with the mesh and such and some assembly will be required on your end for detailing and such. All I am asking for is the cost of shipping them to you. I want them to end up with someone who will use them. So drop me a line if your interested.

Earth shaker tutorial Part 3

This is part 3. Part 2 is here and Part 1 is here.

This part of the tutorial deals with the next 2 steps. First I added a bunch of the extra pieces from the aforementioned tank to the barrels. The only things left are to add to them now is a few little 40k pieces and an ornament/sight on the front. One other thing is to do green stuff around some of the bits to close the gaps and  to give it a sort of welded/repaired appearance.

Next is a 2 step process on the main body. First I inserted a piece of tupe between the two sides that acts as a mounting point for the cannon. I also added some plasticard  on the inside and then verticle pillars, these add some more depth and a place for the first part of the gunshield to rest.
Then I built the first part of the shield which is just a piece of plasticard cut to size and then framed some with the plasticard to give it more depth. On top of the 2 vertical pieces are flat pieces of plasticard to flatten out the top of the shield. There is only 2 steps left for the main body which aren't pictured, another more ornamental shield part is mounted on the front that I push molded from the front door of a landraider and then adding other little 40k bits to it to add more detail. The slots I cut for the gun barrels to fit through are not perfect on purpose. I want it to be one of the things that stands out between all the models and part of it will also be covered by the 2nd shield.
The next tutorial will focus on the assembly of the back part of the carriage and the rear of the tank. Hopefully that will be done in the next two weeks. Once main difference between these and the original is that I will not mount the gun until after I paint it all this time. Just to make it easier to paint.

Anyway more as I get it done. Hope this helps some of you out.

Plan for the 6MMRPC

The plan is rather simple. Basically doing what I wanted to do anyway and the goals line up pretty well. Not sure how I will handle the jokers since I am more budget orientated.

The projects I want to complete this year are the following:

The omg project if I somehow manage the others is my Space marines. I technicaly have zombies somewhere, I think... I have also decided to change up my terrain idea. Mainly because while working on getting the Mantic stuff fully assembled they have just aggravated me to no end. Especially the fortified bits. Not sure if I will get rid of them but I will definitely be changing my approach. More on that at a later date.
I have also found a method on the net for how I think I will deal with the whole playing surfaces issue. That will also be covered at a later date. At the moment this is a basic list of stuff. I will do a more detailed one before the 6MMRPC officially starts up on June 1st.

More as I figure it out and previews of what I have been working on tomorrow.

Scratch built earth shaker tutorial: Part 2

The first thing I did was cut the two different size pipes to what I considered the right lengths and then connect them together. To do this I did a circle of the bars of plastic card on the inside. I then green stuffed the joint in order to make the transition between the 2 parts more smooth. I also green stuffed the end in order to hide the cut marks.

For the chassi I followed the instructions for assembling the bottom but not attaching the top part of the chassi.

This was followed by building a platform on the bottom parts. It was on two different levels and also had slopped plastic card connecting the two bits. The next step isn't in the photo but is very straight forward. I green stuffed the joints in the plates and edges of the platform.

I then used my files/sandpaper and dremel to clean up all the green stuff.

In part 3 I will show the rest of the assembly for the main chassi and possibly the gun barrel. Part 4 will focus on the last parts of the gun deck and such. There will be a longer gap because I need time to build up and photograph the other two parts.

Scratch built earth shaker tutorial: Part 1 materials

I have no idea how many posts will be in this series but I figure its best to start with the basics. So here is what I know I used.

-plastic card
-two different sizes of plastic pipes ( never measured them found ones I liked the size of and ran with it)
-green stuff and other similar products
- some rectangular sticks of plastic card (no idea on the proper name for these)
-instant mold
-A4 sheet of fine wire mesh
-the following two model kits

Now for an important note about the above two kits. For me gundams are easy to get and can often be bought much cheaper than in many other parts of the world. The 3 I bought for doing these conversions cost me around $24 when they were on sale in total.

The  M-12 155mm Gun Motor Carriage  kit could probably have been used not only to build the whole kit itself but even has a gun barrel in it that seems to match up well with the GW basilisk. The only thing I am not sure on is the size of the tank since I don't have a single chimera chasi vehicle and have never owned one. So cant really guess the size of it. Originally I was going to use them alone to make everything but decided against it after looking at the overall size. I did however use a lot of accessories from this box for making the earth shaker look a little more realistic. One of these I was given I bought the other two for about $20. They are a usefull addition non the less to my bits box for future projects.

In part 2 I will start with the basic construction. That should be out in the next few days.

Scratch built Earth Shaker on carriage comparison pics

Just to give an idea of the size of this thing here are pics.

Rhino pics.

Devilfish pics

Here is a pic with the devilfish and the barrel is lined up with the end of the devilfish.

As you can see this thing is massive. Part of the reason it is so big is the gun barrel. I always felt that these huge earth shaker guns that are supposed to hurl shells a massive distance were just to tiny on the basilisk. I have never seen an actual earth shaker on carriage to be able to gauge just how big the forgeworld models are.
Comments always welcome,

A late update but for a good reason.

Why is it late, well a few reasons. I have been busy doing actual modeling stuff and I have been doing a lot of research for further posts on the whole Mantic thing. So first up the 6 finished stealth suits.
So that's 6 points to august etc etc. I also spent $10 and picked up a Manta battle carrier for FSA. So that's minus $10 on that.
I also finished assembling the first counts as earth shaker on heavy carriage. It's not perfect but I learned a lot about using green stuff and assembling in general. Not bad for my first scratch built model I think.

Front
Side 1
Rear
Side 2
Top view
Following that I started assembly of the next two Heavy carriage Earth shakers.

Finally I started to teach the oldest how to paint, specifically base coating. Tomorrow he will prime his own orc and then we will move on to the next step. He is now 4 1/2, I have also started working on remembering and writing ABCs and such using his Battle tech manuals.

More as I can and hopefully another comparison post on Wednesday.
